Guests should always be asked to wear low-heeled shoes when entering a plant or other area where toe or foot protection is required. Cutting out the heel for use with high-heeled shoes voids the manufacturer's warranty and any safety certifications attached to the product.

However, there are times when the business risk to denying a guest access to a plant may be greater than the safety hazard posed.
